PRAYING CONTINUOUSLY
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17).
As we begin a new year, many people start with resolutions… many of them involve diet and physical exercise, but what about spiritual exercise and feeding on the Bread of Life, God’s Word? Resolutions are usually broken within the first 3 weeks; I know as I’ve been there and done that. Honestly, I continue to be a work in progress to make spiritual exercise more than a resolution but a habit that includes prayer.
Praying can be a concentrated, focused, and dedicated time alone with God—listening to Him, depending on Him, and determining to obey Him. But it can also be a constant conversation with God; anytime, anywhere, anyplace. Ephesians 6:18 says, “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Since He is omnipresent, He is our constant companion; and as believers, He is in our hearts and can be in our every thought. May our first thought and prayer when we wake, and our last thought and prayer when we go to bed, be thanking God for being with us through another day. We can make quick, brief prayers our habitual response in every situation and align our lives around His desires. Prayer can be our life, and our life a prayer, as we go about our daily lives, being a powerful influence and witness for Him.
As we continually commune with Him, there are wonderful benefits! His will becomes our will. We become more passionate about prayer and less anxious as we fully trust in Him. All this gives us a deeper love and joy in our relationship with Him and with others!
Let’s also remember the second part of Ephesians 6:18 that says, “With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Be on the lookout for divine appointments. If any of this is outside our comfort zone, pray and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help. In our weakness, He’s in us to strengthen and encourage us. “Pray for all the Lord’s people”—that includes the church, as well as Andrew, Wendy, and our Palau team ministry. Keep them in continual prayer as they proclaim the Good News globally. Join us Tuesday, January 28th at 9am pacific time to pray with and for them!
